Appointment of Dr Dominic Nielson as SAR Trainee Representative

Dr Dominic Nielson has been appointed to the SAR Council as the trainee representative. He is a trainee in the Barts and the London School of Anaesthesia (North East Thames). He has interests in paediatric anaesthesia, anaesthesia for major surgery, remote site anaesthesia and education. He is a co-founder of a very successful structured oral examination course for the Primary FRCA. He graduated from the University of Leeds in 2010 and gained the FRCA in 2015

New SAR President

I am delighted to announce that Council of the Society has elected Dr Shane George as the incoming President from March 2016 following a closely contested ballot. Shane has served as Honorary Secretary since the Society was founded in 2011. He has held consultant posts at Royal Brompton and Harefield (London), John Radcliffe (Oxford) and currently at Papworth Hospital (Cambridge). He has set out an ambitious programme for the next two years we look forward to his inauguration at the 4th Scientific Meeting on 17 March 2016 at the Institute of Child Health in London.

AAGBI Working Party on safety and provision of Anaesthesia on MRI units including intra-operative MRI


The SAR president, Dr Michael Boscoe, has been appointed the Royal College of Anaesthetists representative on the AAGBI Working Party on the safety and provision of Anaesthesia on MRI units including intra-operative MRI. Congratulations to our SAR president. SAR is contributing in setting standards in matters involving anaesthesia in radiological procedures.
