Society of Anaesthetists in Radiology

2019 President’s Message

Dear Members

It has been a year since our last meeting and I hope the new year has started well for all of you.

The Society has welcomed a new Trainee representative, Yohineee …who we hope will contribute to the development of the Society. We thank Dominic Nielsen for his considered contribution over the last 3 years and wish him well.

We have now confirmed the details for our next meeting and expect you to see flyers around soon. Please save the date of Oct 31 2019, Thursday at the the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, as we hope you can join us.

Topics:

Neurosurgical Management of Movement Disorders. (Deep brain stimulation)

Speakers: Dr Anjum Misbahuddin – Consultant Neurologist; Mr Ian Low – Consultant Neurosurgeon; Dr Ana Mirallave – Consultant Neurophysiologist and Dr Otu Enwo – Consultant Neuroanaesthetist

Interventional cardiology treatment for Tetralogy of Fallot.

Speakers: Dr Graham Derrick, Paediatric Cardiologist,  Dr Lucy Hepburn, Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetist

Pro-Con Debate – “Am I getting on your nerves?

This house believes that Interventional Radiologists should perform ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks”

Proposed by: Dr Ian Renfrew   Opposed by: Dr. Tim Egan

We welcome poster presentations and encourage you or your trainees to submit them to us.

The Society has submitted requests for recognition of the anaesthetists contribution to Laboratory procedures to NHS Digital (NHS Finance). We received strong support from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the British Society of Interventional Radiology(BSIR). While the process is slow, we hope we can chip away at the lack of remuneration for our services as discussed at our last meeting.

Lastly, we have some positions available on the Committee and welcome any expressions of interest.

Best wishes and hope to see you in October

Shane George
